Best Picture:? Your OscarThemed Party in 30 Minutes or Less

Oscar himself for your party

OK folks.? We?re having? potluck party for the Oscars and you?re expected to bring a dish.? You may choose anything you wish, so long as it relates to one of the movies nominated for Best Picture.

And the nominees are: The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse.

Unless you are flying in from Paris, you may not bring anything made from horse meat. You may, however, bring something for the dogs, if you?re pitching for The Artist.? Pineapple would be nice for The Descendants. ?And anything with mayonnaise should work for The Help.

I personally will make something from the fifties because I?m pitching for The Tree of Life.

Put your thinking caps on.? The party will begin at my house on Sunday at 7 pm. Food and drink will abound.? Prizes will be given for the best dishes ? that is ? the ones which create their own Best Picture.

And yes,? they should taste good too.? So hit your marks, folks.? This is going to be the best Oscar Party ever.

The Tree of Life

Pigs in a Blanket, Martini?s and Tuna Noodle Casserole will all be welcomed.

50?s Tuna-Noodle Casserole

Tuna Casserole for the Oscars party

Here?s a great traditional recipe for the casserole.

Yield: Makes 8-10 servings

?

Nonstick vegetable oil spray

1/4 cup dry white wine

4 teaspoons cornstarch

1/3 cup all purpose flour

1 1/2 cups organic milk

1 cup canned chicken broth

2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried

2 tablespoons cream cheese

2 6-ounce cans Italian? solid white tuna packed in oil, undrained

1 cup frozen petite peas, unthawed

?

8 ounces farfalle (bow-tie) pasta

?

1/2 cup crushed baked potato chips (about 1 ounce)

?

Preheat oven to 400?F. Spray 8 x 8 x 2-inch glass baking dish with vegetable oil spray. Whisk wine and cornstarch in small bowl to blend. Whisk flour in heavy medium saucepan to remove any lumps. Gradually add milk to flour, whisking until smooth. Add broth and thyme and whisk over medium heat until liquid thickens and boils, about 4 minutes. Add cornstarch mixture and whisk until liquid boils and is smooth, about 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add Neufch?tel cheese and whisk until melted. Stir in both cans of tuna with their liquid and frozen peas. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

?

Meanwhile, cook pasta in large pot of boiling salted water until tender but still firm to bite, stirring occasionally. Drain pasta. Return to pot.

?

Add tuna mixture to pasta; stir to blend well. Transfer to prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with potato chips. Bake until top is golden and sauce bubbles around edges of dish, about 25 minutes.
